Board of Directors Position: Membership
What does your committee (or position) do?
As Membership Director it is my responsibility to act as the SMPS member contact on all issues related to membership. My committee and I are also responsible for the recruitment and retention of professional and student SMPS members through special events, membership drives, on-campus activities, and other direct outreach efforts. We host two new member events as well as a membership happy hour.
Why did you want to be on the board?
When I first entered the AEC industry SMPS played a major role in my career success. I was so grateful for SMPS that I started telling everyone I know about the organization. People began to notice and thought my passion for the organization could be put to good use. I totally agreed.
What do you hope to accomplish as director/chair?
My main goal for this year is to connect with students at local universities and shine a light into our industry. I want to connect our future industry leaders with our current industry leaders.
What advice would you give to someone interested in becoming a board member?
Just do it! You won't regret it. You will feel so fulfilled in helping an organization that you feel strongly about.
Why do you love SMPS?
SMPS has not only helped me learn more about our industry but has also connected me with the most amazing mentors. The people you meet at SMPS are priceless.
