SMPS Member since: 2010
Length in the industry: 14 years

How has SMPS helped you in your career? It has given me insight on industry trends and has acted as a great resource for marketing information with regards to the A/E/C community.

What is the biggest benefit of being active in SMPS? The built-in networking between industry leaders and decision makers.

Can you offer a helpful hint for fellow SMPS members? Be active. Stay active. Don’t be afraid to reach out to other members for help or advice.

What has been your memorable SMPS event to date, and why? The Casa de Esperanza Holiday Luncheon. I enjoy networking and knowing that everything SMPS does really helps out the children of Casa de Esperanza.

Describe your typical workday. Depending on our project photo assignment for the day, it would start with arriving at the job site at around 6:00 am (or a half hour before sunrise). We photograph the project until about noon and then return to the studio to process the photos that we captured. After processing and selecting our ‘picks’ from the project, we then send our client the online web gallery for their review and selection of photos. We spend the rest of the day scheduling our next project shoot and delivering final retouched photos to our clients.

What do you love most about your job? Every day and every project is different - even after 14 years of business, nothing is ever exactly the same.

If you could eliminate one thing from your daily schedule, what would it be and why? The billing and invoicing of our work. This is something that I am not 100% efficient with and many times takes me longer than it should.

What’s the best career advice you have ever received? Never try to be everything to everyone.

What has been your hardest lesson learned? Never stop marketing. Every single job is important for every single client, no matter the subject matter.

If you were not in this industry, what would be your “dream job”? International Land Developer

If you could trade places with any other person for a day, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional with whom would it be? Gerald Hines

What would you do with a year off? Travel the globe and see as many pieces of architecture as possible.

What do you enjoy most about Houston? The ability to build a prosperous business within a few years with only a few connections and the networking that Houston allows.

How do you kick-back? Relaxing with friends over some good craft beers on a patio in or around the city.

What is your favorite film? Star Wars

What would we find playing on your iPod, or phone, etc.? Canadian Independent Alternative music and EDM music is usually playing on my phone.

What’s the one thing you already own that you can’t live without? My camera

Where do you find inspiration? Online articles about modern architecture and seeing those photos.
