Board of Directors Position: Sponsorship Director
What does your committee (or position) do? Sponsorship oversees a portion of the revenue stream for the chapter. We secure companies who generously support SMPS, our mission and our members. In turn, our committee helps keep them in the forefront of our members and offers opportunity to gain recognition.
Why did you want to be on the board? SMPS was a big part of my introduction into AEC. It was the vehicle to help grow my network of fellow marketers in the industry and offered me training, mentorship and provided a broader perspective of my role and career path opportunities. Being on the board, I can help to ensure it continues to add value to the members, the industry and our sponsors.
What do you hope to accomplish as director/chair? World peace! 😊 My hope is that I can bring a little of my own experience and creativity to our approach. I love being a part of a solid think-tank and we have a pretty strong group of professionals on this board to bounce around great ideas. Making a positive and impactful plan and seeing it through is very exciting so, challenge accepted!
What advice would you give to someone interested in becoming a board member? Do it!! Do it!! Do it!! I would encourage anyone to tackle a board position and enhance different skills they may not be able to utilize in their office. You can truly get the most out of your membership by getting involved and a board position will open new avenues to team building, management and communication skills that are valuable assets in any role.
Why do you love SMPS? SMPS has maintained a constant in my career and it is a resource I can call on for so many areas. SMPS is the great people, past and present, who gave of their time to help me build my career. And today, I can call on my network for tips and trick or feedback on a contact; introductions to a company or help vetting a new software; mentorship or a shoulder to cry. SMPS is always going to be the support system I am grateful for having that routinely guided me over the past 18 years.
