MENTOR: Corey Lynch
Marketing Manager at PhiloWilke Partnership
Length in the industry: 12
SMPS Member Since: 2015, currently serving on the Programs Committee

Why did you apply to the mentorship program?  Actually, I was asked if I would be interested in mentoring. I had never been a part of the Mentor Program, but was excited to be a part of it.

What do you hope to learn from each other?   In the past few months, I feel that the role of mentor has taught me a lot about myself as a leader and a marketing professional. As I have gotten to know Sara and over our discussion about business development and marketing tasks, I have been able to evaluate my own styles and approach. Allowing me to better translate how BD can further our technical staff members both personally and professionally.

How did you (or plan to) structure your mentorship? Do you meet at the same time every week? Do you have an agenda for each meeting?  Sara has set the structure. We have a standing meeting once a month and an open email policy. It is great to meet up every month and touch base. Our primary focus has been BD styles and the transition from a primary marketing role into a shared marketing and BD position.

What do you like best about working in the A/E/C industry?  I have worked on the architect side of the industry my entire career. One of my favorite parts of my job is talking with our project teams and discovering new and interesting details. But what it really boils down to is the people, we have such as great group within this industry.

PROTÉGÉ:  Sara Krezinski
Marketing Proposal Specialist at DBR Engineering
Length in the industry: 5 yrs
SMPS Member since: 2018

Why did you apply to the mentorship program? I had the opportunity to step into an exciting new marketing position and needed to start really understanding the AEC industry in a new more technical and creative way. My manager and fellow SMPS member introduce me to the Mentor program for new ideas and advice along the way!

What do you hope to learn from each other? Suggestions, advice, knowledge and creativity!

How did you (or plan to) structure your mentorship? Do you meet at the same time every week? Do you have an agenda for each meeting? We would meet up for breakfast and I tried to come up with agenda, but it was really what I was going in that week and weeks ahead. I wish we had met more and that’s totally on me…Corey is so knowledgeable and confident!

What do you like best about working in the A/E/C industry? I have always been interested to see what is happening in and around my city. New commercial and school projects and in my case, the unique features happening with MEP and Sustainability.
