Board of Directors Position: Secretary
What does your committee (or position) do?
As secretary I am in charge of meeting organization, board reports, meeting agendas and notes, preparing the annual education report, and updating chapter documents.
Why did you want to be on the board?
SMPS has been invaluable to me and my career and I really want to communicate that to other members and potential members. I felt being a part of the board would be a great place to start communicating the value SMPS can bring to your company and you, personally and professionally!
What do you hope to accomplish as director/chair?
My hope is to learn and grow skills that are outside my normal day-to-day and I felt being a part of the board would help me to accomplish that. I also hope to help SMPS grow in their membership. As someone that is still pretty new in her career (aka a millennial ha ha), I feel my experience and skills can help the organization communicate and engage with the new wave of generations entering the workforce.
What advice would you give to someone interested in becoming a board member?
Do it - and show up and put in a real effort! If you can do that, you’ll learn and make everlasting relationships that you can carry with you in the future! My term is just starting but I can already tell that this group is going to push me and help me grow!
Why do you love SMPS?
SO many things. I love having people I can call at any time for advice, help and to bounce ideas off of. I love going to luncheons and conferences that reignite my love for marketing and spark creativity.
This is a picture of me in Vancouver in the fall… I love maple leaves and collected hundreds of them and flew them back to Houston with me hah!
